My Time In Homestay

My homestay experience

Hi, l am Helen, a 17 year old international student from China, l am a commerce student in Brisbane.

At the end of September 2016 l came here to further my study and choose the commerce as my subject in University of Queensland.

The reason why l come to Australia is before l choose my subject, l prefer Australia or US. And then my agency told me if l would like to study commerce, UQ is a good choice. And l found UQ is exactly in Australia!!!

Because l am 17 year old, so l need to live with homestay as my guardian, so l started to contact with AHN homestay, after writing my profile and introduction about myself or some question like what kind of homestay would l like, the family who best matches each other request was organized. I saw their photo on the AHN website and l can’t wait to meet them. But at the same time, l felt a little bit nervous, cause l heard lots of bad comments about someone who live in homestay and meet some bad person like landlord take their money or never communicate with student and always argue. I am afraid this kind of things will happen to me.

But completely not!!! Because l fight with my dad, so we decided to took Uber to my homestay. We have a big hug when we met each other. The landlady was very enthusiastic and introduce her daughter and husband for me, all very nice guys. They always said do whatever you want and give me space and respect. They know this is my first time to went abroad, everything is curious and fresh for me, so they recommend a lot of interesting places and draw a route map in case l lose way.

We have lots of family activities on weekend like strawberry picking, enjoy brunch in restaurant. They’re like my family and reduce my homesick, many thanks for them.Because of them, l know more about Australian festivals like Christmas, Easter, Boxing day, etc. They let me get closer to Australia cultural and atmosphere.

I really enjoy stay with them and l like Australia very much. people very nice and polite, breath fresh air every day, beautiful sky and clouds like marshmallows. Attracted me most is people spend a slower pace of life, they lay on the beach and enjoy the sunshine, or do some reading on the park bench, everyone is so relaxed and l never felt this atmosphere before l came to Australia.

So that’s whole wonderful experience with my homestay. Now l still lives with them and this blog is written on the way go on holiday with my homestay!!! I hope they are all right and they are best homestay for me! And l also hope that everyone is as lucky as me and meet very nice homestay. Thank for them everything.
