Experiences In Homestay

I am very happy to share my homestay experience. My name is Jenny. I am 22 year old, a UWA Chinese student in Perth, Western Australia, now I am studying my English bridging course because my English language is not good enough for studying at main campus.

About two months ago, I arrived my homestay house. It was a midnight, I was tired and felt sorry to disturb my hosts (Richard and Linda) sleeping, but they are very nice. They greeted me even midnight! And let me take a comfort shower! I can never forget this night.

Homestay improve my English. At the beginning, I felt nervous and exciting. This is my first time been to Australia and speak English with Australia people. In my country, I seldom spoke English. I told these to my host, he suggested me that I can read newspaper with him at breakfast on every morning! He seems like my English teacher. Once I met some new words in newspaper, he would explain them patiently. What’s more, we have a chat during the dinner everyday and watch TV after dinner. It helps my speaking in English. When I have some problems about my homework, they will help me. I appreciate the AHN which offers a nice family to me.

I familiar with Perth soon. My hosts are born in Perth, they know this city very well. They drove me to many place. They told me how to get faster way to go to school and led me to take bus and train. Sometimes, they drove me to other town (my favourite town is Fremantle) to buy some special food. I remember that Richard drove me to a Germany shop, he said, their sausages are authentic! Besides, they recommended some beautiful place to tour like the famous Rottness Island, I’ve been to there and I have to it is a heaven. The sea in around the island is the best I saw and there are lots of cute animals, specially the quokka, they are very cute, they will smile when I took photos with them. With my hosts help, I know the city better than my classmates.

Now I want to talk about my daily life. I have class only afternoon, so I needn’t get up early on the morning. Most time I prepare my lunch just by myself, sometimes Richard or Linda will help me although this not contain in my homestay contract. When I finish my class, they’ve cooked so I can have dinner as soon as possible and I won’t be hungry. They will give me sweets after dinner. To my surprise, they do not need me to wash the dishes. I usually take shower at 9.00 p.m. Fortunately, they don’t limit the time for me, but I will try my best to take quick shower. One more kind thing, sometimes the weather is terrible, Richard or Linda will drive me to school. If I am outside, they will call me and tell me they can collect me to go home, they don’t want to me to get wet and sick. It is very warm, I feel that likes a family.

I really enjoy living with the warm-heart family, I think I will live in there for a long time.
