White-beard Robert

My Wonderful Homestay Journey

Hello,my name is Winnie and I am a first-year psychological science student at UNSW.  This is my second semester in UNSW and it is also my second semester living with my homestay hosts Robert and Rani.  They are very nice and kindhearted people and they really make me feel that I am living with my families and having a real home in Australia. Rani, my hostess, is a “master chef “! She loves cooking and she cooks the variety of meals everyday: Indian curry chicken, Malaysian Nasi Goreng, Italian lasagna, Spanish paella, Greek mousaka etc.  During the time period of living in Rani’s house, I have tried all kinds of food across nations , which really satisfied a foodie’s stomach.

My homestay host Robert has very warm smiles and white beard covered his cheek, which reminds me of grandpa Colonel Sander, the founder of KFC. While Robert not only makes fried chicken but also gives me a lot of helpful tips of my study and daily life in Australia.

Last semester, as a freshman of the university,I had many works to do and to get used to the university life. I didn’t have many chances to explore Sydney, however thanks to Robert and Rani, I still got some opportunities to have a taste of Sydney’ s beautiful scenery. We live very close to a beach and just take about 5–minute bus we can reach the top of a hill on which we can overlook the ocean and the whole scene of Sydney. That’s just amazing!

The scene we have seen on the top of the hill.

Besides, once a friend of Rani invited her and Robert to have a dinner with him and his wife in a very delicate restaurant in Darling Harbor. Rani and Robert brought me to the dinner and I was so lucky to have a chance to taste the brilliant food in the restaurant while sitting beside the beautiful harbor.

Although I have just came to Australia for a short time Rani and Robert give me many chances to experience the local life and to know more about the local culture in oz. The last three months I went back to China for a holiday and I asked Rani and Robert to reserve the room for me. To be honest, before I came back to Sydney, I was a bit nervous about my new semester and was also reluctant to part with my families, however, when I thought of my sweet home in Sydney I felt comforting and I was quite looking forward to seeing Rani and Robert again. After I came back, I found Rani have hung a few more paintings of flowers in my room (she painted them by herself) and have changed a pink clean sheet for me, which makes my room warmer and sweeter.

Moreover, we have a new cute family member Echo, a 12-week-old puppy, which is just a wonderful surprise for me because I love dogs so much.

It is totally a fortune for me to live with Rani and Robert and I really treasure it. Anyways, it is just the beginning of the new semester and I will keep moving on to explore the beautiful scientific world inside the university and the wonderful outside world in Sydney. Most importantly, I will have more good time with Rani, Robert, and Echo!

Echo babe!
