Studying in Central Coast
The University of Newcastle operates two key campuses on the Central Coast, located in Ourimbah and Gosford.
Ourimbah Campus is set within peaceful bushland and is part of a unique education precinct shared with TAFE NSW and other training providers. The campus offers modern teaching facilities and a quiet learning environment while still being close to public transport and major roads.
The new Gosford City Campus is located in the heart of Gosford and expands higher education opportunities in the region. The campus is close to Gosford train station, the waterfront and local businesses, providing students with a convenient and vibrant study environment.

Places to Visit
Gosford
- Scenic Walkways and Beautiful Bushland – Gosford is surrounded by natural bushland reserves and scenic walking tracks close to the city. Two of the most popular areas are Rumbalara Reserve and Katandra Reserve, both located just minutes from the town centre. Brisbane Water National Park offers scenic bushwalks through sandstone gorges and rainforest, while Carawah Reserve features an elevated boardwalk through mangroves and wetlands where you can spot local wildlife.
- Gosford Regional Gallery and Edogawa Commemorative Garden - Visit one of the Central Coast’s leading art galleries, featuring rotating exhibitions including Archibald Prize displays. Explore the region’s first Moving Image Gallery, stroll through the tranquil Edogawa Commemorative Garden with its colourful koi fish, and chill out at Top Point Café overlooking the gardens.
- Australian Reptile Park – A well-known wildlife park about 15 minutes’ drive from Gosford featuring native Australian animals including kangaroos, koalas and reptiles.
Ourimbah
- Treetops Adventure Central Coast - Located in Ourimbah State Forest, this outdoor adventure park offers an exciting treetop experience surrounded by native eucalyptus forest. Visitors can tackle aerial rope courses, swinging bridges and ziplines set up to 20 metres above the ground, or ride the park’s thrilling 500-metre Zipcoaster that twists through the trees.
- Beaches – With over 80km of coastline, the Central Coast is home to around 40 beautiful beaches. With The University of Newcastle Ourimbah Campus being just two minutes away from the M1, you’ve got easy access to Shelly Beach, The Entrance other amazing rock pools and waterways.

Weather
The Central Coast enjoys a mild coastal climate similar to nearby Sydney and Newcastle.
During summer (December – February) average maximum temperatures are around 25–27°C, making it perfect for outdoor activities and coastal living. Winter temperatures (June – August) average around 16–18°C during the day.
The region enjoys plenty of sunshine throughout the year, so it's an ideal destination for students who enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle.
