Host on Leave

Under 18

If hosts are required to be away from their home over night or longer, they must give notice to AHN.

Under 18 students must be supervised by an adult who has been approved by AHN

The approved adult must hold a current Working With Children Card.

If the host is going to be away over night or longer and can not arrange for an approved adult to supervise, AHN will relocate the student.  Students can be relocated temporarily or for the remaining period of their time in homestay.

If the student is relocated, hosts will be required to refund any homestay fees to AHN for any nights outside those which the student has stayed with them.

Hosts are not paid for the time students are relocated in their absence.

Hosts are paid if the student chooses to take leave - please see Student Holidays.

Over 18

Students over 18 are not required to be supervised by an adult.

Students can be left in the home unattended should the host need to go away.

AHN requests that both Student and Host confirm with AHN when an alternative arrangement is made.  Students can stay in the home, if hosts and students are comfortable for the student to stay in the home while the host is away.

Hosts can either prepare/freeze meals for the student or alternatively purchase food and leave it for the student to prepare.

AHN can reduce the rate to "No meals" if the host and student would rather change the homestay product during this period.  The student can then take care of their own meals during the period the host is away.

If either the host of student is not comfortable with the student staying in the home while the host is away, AHN can relocate the student.  Students can be relocated temporarily or for the remaining period of their time in homestay.

If the student is relocated, hosts will be required to refund any homestay fees to AHN for any nights outside those which the student has stayed with them.

Hosts are not paid for the time students are relocated in their absence.
