Additional Charges

Homestay Hosts can only charge students an extra fee for Internet and/or Telephone usage.  This must be outlined in the homestay rules and clearly explained to the student on their arrival.

This is the only money that the student is to pay directly to the host.

Hosts can not charge for electricity, water, laundry or any other services unless previously approved, in writing, with your AHN supervisor.

The fee for use of internet and/or telephone must be outlined in the Additional Charges on the hosts Public Profile.

It is not a requirement that hosts must charge for use of Internet or Telephone.  Some hosts do not charge as they already have their internet in place and the student usage does not create any excessive fees on what is normally paid.

Charges must be reasonable and can not exceed what is outlined on the hosts profile.

If there are no charges listed on the hosts profile, they can not expect a student to pay any extra fees.

Internet Usage

Host families are responsible for their Internet Usage.  It is strongly advised that hosts monitor data usage within the first few weeks of the students arrival.  This can usually be done easily through their Internet Service Providers website.

If the host finds that the student is using excessive amounts of data, they can speak directly with the student and ask them to decrease their downloads.  We would advise the host to send a quick email to perth@homestaynetwork.org or to their supervisor through the AHN system advising that they have discussed this with the student.

If the student's data usage does not decrease, the host can then ask the AHN supervisor for approval to charge the student an extra amount on top of the charges stated in the host public profile.
