The University of Sydney and Centre for English Teaching (CET) has contracted with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to give international students the opportunity to be hosted by a specially trained AHN Homestay Host for their introduction to accommodation and living in Australia.

AHN is considered to be the leading Australian Homestay Manager and has been chosen as the only organisation meeting the University’s comprehensive requirements to ensure the best welcoming experience possible.

Australian Homestay Standards

Homestay is a cultural exchange between a local individual or family (called a host) and a visiting international student. It is a wonderful way to share a unique cultural experience.

Homestay hosts will help you settle into Sydney and provide advice on general safety, accommodation and welfare information.

You can initially book an AHN hosted homestay placement for 2-4 weeks as part of your orientation to Australia. There is also an option to extend your original homestay placement after this period on the same or different service level.

AHN offers students a quality and secure homestay experience. All of our AHN Homestay families have undergone extensive training, police checks (as required), are personally interviewed and homes professionally inspected.

AHN provides Insurance to protect you and your belongings while in homestay, and a professional 24/7 helpline including interpreter services should you ever need assistance. Please visit www.homestaynetwork.org/ahn-insurance for detailed insurance information.

AHN aims to find you the best available Homestay based on your preferences.

Our staff are experts in homestay placements and we have a high success rate in first time placements.

Your placement fee and initial Homestay fees will need to be paid in advance. This enables us to continue with your Homestay application and ensures that we are able to provide you with an early confirmation.

How to Begin

To begin the homestay application process please click the ‘Join as a Student’ button located below. You will then be taken through the application form and once completed a Welcome Email will be sent to your email address. There will be a link in this email you will need to click to activate your account. Once your account is activated our Systems Administrator will assign your application to the relevant Supervisor who will begin the placement procedure.
